The DSI Project - A 32" DSI Multitouch Coffee Table

Description

For the last couple of months I have been working on a 32" DSI Multitouch table.
There were a few issues in the testing stage where at one point I cracked the LCD ;-(
Very sad times... However, I have a new LCD now and the construction of the table is going very well.

-------------UPDATE---------------

So now I pretty much have the table completed, and only the finishing touches to go.
I've been away on my honeymoon for 7 weeks and only now just getting back to the multitouch table.

Check out the poorly managed, un-optimised, one-handed filming and demonstration of the table using TouchWorldWind JAVA. =)

I used an old Subwoofer terminal plate to house the power switch and AC plug. =)

I'll be adding more info very soon but for now, here's a couple of pics of what the table looks like...

which lcd are you using and does it have the ffp issue, if so, how did you fix it.

Fairlane's picture

@stash718, I'm now using a TX-32LWD500A Panasonic LCD.

Please see the post below for a description and photos of the FFC issue I had.

Hi Fairlane, excellent job with the table! I have a question about your power block. Where did you get that love piece of kit? I've been hunting high and low for exactly that type of connection with switch.

Additionally, are you using a diffusion layer under your LCD? I've switched back to my rear-projection setup due to the level of transparency of the LCD.

And finally, have you played with fiducial markers with your setup yet?

Keep up the great work!

Fairlane's picture

@grimjack2600, please see below comments.. I am using a Subwoofer plate that I modified. About the diffusion layer, I am using the layers that come with the LCD and at the moment no fiducial markers work properly yet with my setup.

Please see my blog or more info on layering and pics on the setup.

Can you give me the dimensions of the endlighten you ordered.

smedley.jason's picture

Ok that is what we are going with. I hate the bureaucracy I have to go through just to order the components for this screen.

Fairlane's picture

Well the sheet I ordered was 3m x 2m but the piece I cut down for my 32" screen was 74cm x 44cm x 6mm

Which terminal are you referring to? If you mean the last picture above then that's because I used a subwoofer plate and modified it to house the IEC Connector.

Below is a link to a pic from my blog showing the other side of the plate.

Yes that is the one I was referring to. I am going to visit some audio and hardware stores and see if I can find any as excess parts, Also how are you mounting your LCD to the endlighten or is it just laying on top of it, and how do you mount the endlighten on top of table?

smedley.jason's picture

I can't seem to find the power terminal you are using in any online parts stores. Any recommendations? Also really loving your project. I am building an application based on C# for my school's touch screen we are currently building.

I taped the LCD module to a piece of acrylic and that is set into the frame which has been routered so the acrylic sits inside and has support.

I then routered the Lid so that there is no movement once it is all in place.

You can see more pictures and information on my blog. Below is a link to the post.

Good luck with your project and thanks for the kind words!

Cheers,

looking good! was wondering if you are using a protective layer above your endlighten?

Fairlane's picture

Thanks mate, I was going to but the blobs were better without it.
I've had coffee cups and beer bottles on it and it hasn't left many marks.
